Are You Seriously Asking Me That?

So, what do you do all day?

-all together now moms… “Are you seriously asking me that!?” (Throw in a few curse words)

I’m currently a part-time stay at home mom. My son goes to school 3 days a week and on those days I teach. I was home with him for the first 2 years. Every.Single.Day

Believe it or not I was a mom who didn’t rely on friends or family to help take care of their child. The closest family we had lived an hour away, or more. The first whole year of his life it was just us and my husband.

My goal was the first year and then I became aware of all the benefits he was getting by being with me, so we made it 2 years. The day after his 2nd birthday he started school part-time.

When I was home with him those first two years & even to this day, I was always being asked “so what do you do all day?”

helpful hint folks, NEVER ASK A STAY AT HOME PARENT WHAT THEY DO ALL DAY!

oh & just in case you didn’t get that, NEVER!

I coached a travel volleyball team 2 nights a week as well as tournaments on the weekends. But that wasn’t work to me, that was “my time.”

All you parents know what I’m talking about. Bathroom breaks, grocery shopping, laying in the tub. “My time” until you have a toddler πŸ˜‰

During the day I was making sure my child learned the difference in day and night. I made sure we did stimulating activities. I was making sure he was well nourished. And that was only the first 6-8 months with him.

After that you have to learn to be able to clean the house while entertaining, cook dinner without your child getting scolded by something hot, sing the ABCs 10 times a day so you feel like a good parent.. the list goes on.

At the end of the night you, as the parent, even begin to ask yourself “what did I do all day?”

Then in that very (relaxing) moment, you hear a cough or hiccup and rush to check on the baby. Once you’re there you realize that what you did all day was kept that baby alive, happy, & healthy. (Even if you did mumble mean things under your breath)

So please NEVER ask me what I did all day.
