I love Christmas, in fact it’s my favorite Holiday.  The minute that Thanksgiving is over I begin decorating. It probably is annoying to the average person how much I enjoy Christmas. But, since I’ve had my son  I’ve noticed that I have begun dreading Christmas.

As I said, I have had my house decorated for Christmas since the day after Thanksgiving. I even have a few presents under the tree.  The stockings are hung by the chimney with care… You know the rest.

In preparation for Christmas I have since gone through my sons play room three times in hopes of getting rid of more toys each time.  My son has his bedroom that does not have many toys at all, and then he has his playroom that has a whole bunch. His playroom doubles as our guest bedroom, so it is utilized often as a regular bedroom. Therefore I am constantly cleaning it.

I have recently had many family members asking me what they should get him. And I just want to tell them absolutely nothing! But, he’s only two and Christmas is as important to him now as it will ever be. I cannot wait to see the joy on his face when he sees all of the presents under the tree and gets to celebrate multiple Christmases with all of the extended family.

I tell them all to get the same things; little matchbox cars, planes, dump trucks, trash trucks.. all the things that a little boy will play with over and over again.

I do not need the new fancy hot wheels tracks, I do not need the huge train set, I do not need the tool bench…  The list goes on and on.  If you get him those things that is perfectly fine but please do keep in mind that it is more of a headache for him and I then it is fun. Heck, it really becomes Mommy and Daddy’s toys because we’re the ones playing with it due to his demands. That is not an independent play toy for a two-year-old. It is also not fun to step on in the middle of the night when you’re trying to be sneaky around the house as it is.

We have so many toys that get neglected because my son would rather play with the dollar tree toy than with the fancy transforming car. It is a shame that I look in his playroom and see money wasted because there’s toys that do not get played with. It also makes me think to myself that if the Toy Story movie were true I know some toys that would be pissed.

This  year we really concentrate on gifts that would further his imagination. We got him 2 or 3 actual toys  and a bunch of coloring things and games. Oh, and I should mention we are getting him a puppy. I know, I know, “talk about a headache.”

I love that our family and friends are so enthusiastic about giving our son the best gifts but please do remember he is two next year he will be three and it’s usually the smallest things that he likes. When he is old enough to give you a list of things he wants you will be wishing that you were only spending the five dollars on a gift that you should be now.

I’m not a Grinch, I promise.
